Great Product---But

This is a complete kit. Everything you need will be in the carton but there are no labels on the parts. You need to carefully identify all the pieces before you begin. The instructions could be a lot clearer but after putting it together & taking it apart at least twice I feel comfortable in saying that it should take less than a half hour. Great for the price

I bought this media center to hold a lot of stuff. It was easy enough to put together and looks nice. It holds all of my "stuff" and still has plenty of extra shelves in case I needed more storage. The backing is basically just cardboard and not super sturdy but with things in front of it you don't really notice.

DVD/CD STORAGE SHELF

Looks are oftentimes deceiving and in the case of this particular media shelf that is all too true. What you don't see is that this unit is not really made of real wood. You can't really know that you're probably going to split the "wood" when putting it together because it looks fairly sturdy from the ad. No wonder it comes with a blemish cover-up marker...



All of that aside it's not a bad-looking piece. And it's a pretty good price for what you get. You may want to find something a little sturdier if you plan to store only DVDs on it because it is prone to tipping over easily. Great product but misleading Ad

This is a great storage solution very easy to setup and offers plenty of storage. I actually had about 4 more shelves than I needed once I set everything up. Setup was a breeze and only took about 20 minutes and the instructions were too simple for you to make any mistakes! Every piece was CLEARLY labeled and went together without ANY problems. The only problem with this item is the ad is misleading. It's advertised as Oak when actually it's wood composit (a*k*a Beaver Puke) with an Oak Veneer. Geat looking shelves to store your DVDs.

I had out-grown my old media shelves as they were designed to hold about 200 DVDs and I have over 300 plus many season-sets (like the Sopranos OZ West Wing etc.) so I needed something bigger. I also wanted a cabinet that looked pretty nice. I keep it in a study and I didn't want it to look like something in a dorm room yet I didn't want to spend the kind of money required for a really nice piece of furniture made from solid wood. This Atlantic cabinet really fit the bill.



I too encountered some assembly issues which would have been prevented had the instructions been better written. Still I got it done by myself in a couple of hours with very few swear-words being uttered. Yes this is made of pressed wood and it comes from China but for the cost I couldn't find anything better.



This cabinet really looks GOOD when you're done. I spaced my shelves out a little vertically so that my collection is easy to get to instead of having the shelves practically setting on top of the DVDs below them. This gave me the option to spread out some smaller openings for knick-knacks and photos (you can see my set-up under "customer images"). I think that this adds to it's looks and appears more "grown-up" than having them all crowded together. It comes with plenty of shelves and they are easy to move in case my needs change. Probably good but shipped poorly

The one star in this review is for the custome service we dealt with in getting our money back.



I've seen this cabinet whole and complete (we got one just like it from a different retailer that ran out after our purchase) and it is beautiful and functional. When we ordered it from Amazon.com independent retailer it was a whole other story.



The cabinet was shipped in pieces which wasn't a problem as it is easy to put together. The problem was it was shipped in one box with the doors touching the outside edges of the box. If they would have shipped this in its orginal box inside another box with a bit of packing there would not have been a problem. The first time we got it the glass was damaged as was the doors. The second time the glass was intact but the doors were again damaged. The problem was that the line along the bottom and top of the doors that fits into the grooves so the doors slide back and forth were split and cracked making the items unrepairable. The wood is a composit and fragile. The main casing was also scratched and dented again from the lack of proper packing.



In conclusion if you can find this cabinet locally go for it --its very nice. If you need to order it from anywhere I would be wary and probably shy away from it. One wrong shift in packing and this thing is done for. More detail ...

Lacks structural integrity.

I ordered this unit to store my DVD collection which is currently just under 300 titles. It has definitely helped to keep my media organized.



I like that the height of the shelves can be adjusted to fit CDs DVDs or even clamshell VHS cases. If the shelves are set to the height of a standard DVD box the unit will fit five rows of DVDs -- there will be a sixth row that is about the right height for standard CD jewel cases. At this height you will have leftover shelving and hardware (the shelves are held in place with metal dowels) that I assume would come in handy if the unit were used for CDs as you could then accomodate more rows of shelves.



The unit isn't difficult to put together. My only issue with the piece is its cumbersome distribution of weight. It's quite top-heavy. I actually had to screw picture framing hardware to both my wall and the back of the unit and tether the unit to the wall with wire to get it to stand upright. Before I did so it would not stand straight on my carpeted floor with anything on the shelves. For the price it works well and looks fine but if you aren't prepared to do some engineering to hold the thing upright it probably isn't the best product to buy.More detail ...

I was hoping for more...

While I have always followed the age-old adage of "You Get What You Pay For" I have to say that I was hoping for more even in this price range. While I am no stranger to assembling furniture such as this my cabinet had several pieces that just didn't quite line up and consequently caused me to re-drill a few holes.



Additionally while the black veneer is of the quality that one would expect in this range it was already separating from one of the corners after only a week of ownership. Nothing a little wood glue didn't fix but it's still a disappointment.



Lastly the cabinet is very wide but has a very shallow depth causing it to be fairly unbalanced if you aren't careful about where you place your media. I initially loaded the cabinet at the top and left the bottom empty. It tipped over forward spilling the contents and creating quite a mess. Looks/works great two minor issues

This hanging media unit solves a big problem I had with lack of available floor space for a standing unit. It went together quickly had all the parts and looks great on the wall. Unlike other floor-standing units it has a "face frame" - framing on the front of the unit that makes it look more like a finished cabinet and helps make it stronger and more stable. While this looks really nice and makes it very strong the downside is that the frames obscure one item on each side of each shelf. In my configuration I have 12 shelves including the bottom. So 24 items - for me 12 CDs and 12 DVDs - would end up hidden behind the frames where you cannot see the title and you would need to temporarily remove adjacent items to get those end ones out. So I will end up putting in empty "filler" DVD & CD cases in all those end spots because I want to be able to see all my titles without moving things around. That wastes some space (about 8% of total shelf space) which is my only issue with the design. But it still holds a lot of stuff and is a big help. Also note that it is designed to most efficiently hold only CDs. If you have a mix of DVDs & CDs or only DVDs there will be some unusable space at the top left over. The mounting system is a horizontal board you screw into the wall studs which has a full-length lip that mates with a similar board on the unit. I found it really easy to hang and make it level and it feels very strong which is important with so much stuff on it. The manufacturer Prepac always ships units direct from the factory so it really doesn't matter who you order it from just go for the lowest price. Fast shipping: I ordered on a Tuesday got it the following Monday! Warning: the box is very heavy and it helps to have 2 people to carry it. But it was packed well to prevent shipping damage. I've never found a storage unit this nice in any local store so online shopping totally wins out here.

Update - a second minor thing to be aware of: this unit does have a noticeable odor of particle board even after 3 weeks so far on a wall in an open room. I have mine in a spare room so it's not a big deal but if you are thinking of putting it in a bedroom someone sleeps in you might want to reconsider - I'd have trouble sleeping with that odor especially with the door closed and it is taking a lot longer for the smell to dissipate than I expected.More detail ...

Spacing for DVD's is too tight

I bought this cabinet and I'm somewhat dissatisfied.

The assembly is not complicated it uses bolts with cam locks.



PRO's: Finish color enclosed to keep dust out.



CON's: poor door hinge design; it's too small and spacing for DVD's is very restrictive.

The doors do not close evenly and make contact with the shelving.

DVD space is lost because of the top door magnets.



Summary: nice looks but lack of spacing between DVD/shelves and doors causes problems with proper clsosing. Everything is very tightly packed. More detail ...

High Quality Cabinet

This storage wall unit is delivered in pieces for you to assemble so be prepared to build it. It is well packed and designed. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. No nails are required. Some screws and dowels are included to assemble it. What really impressed me is just how good it looks when you're done. Looks good works better.

i got the black Atlantic 3020 in the mail yesterday and had it put together in about 10 or 15 minutes. i can fit about 220 dvds on the thing a huge improvement over having the wobbly stacks taking up a corner of floor in my room.

It looks attractive with a smooth flat balck finish and seems very sturdy (especially with the provided wall strap for anchoring). If you use this rack strictly for DVDs and sit them in horizontal rows you will only be able to fit 6 tiers (leaving two extra) on the rack.

I already have more DVDs than this unit can occupy so i have this idea. The unit seems more than sturdy enough to hold more tiers and because of my limited floor space building this thing up vertically would be necessary. I purchasing another Atlantic 3020 and incorporating the parts into the existing stand to make it about 6 or 7 feet high and hold about 10 or 11 tiers. I'm very confident after seeing the construction and utilizing the wall strap that i can pull this off.

All in all i think this is a great unit and would recommend it to anyone who needs a space-effictent media rack.

At the time of my purchase the black model was 30 dollars more than the chrome model. I don't quite understand that but the thing is well worth it either color you choose.More detail ...

Needs to be packaged better but a great value

Positives: Parts all labeled clearly; the little pieces were all in individual bags and labeled with the letter matching the instructions (instructions say use a "K" screw then open the "K" baggie); predrilled holes were all spot on and everything fit correctly upon completion; quick and easy to construct; spins solidly and smoothly; instructions were clear and simple; I think it looks good.



Negatives: Due to inadequate protection all four of the vertical side panels had a scratch of some nature on them; one of the shelves had a chip in the corner even though those boards were wrapped; had to wipe down all the boards to clean off this grayish residue off them here and there.



Overview: It's not furniture grade it's just laminated pressboard (1/2 in. for the sides top and bottom plates; 3/8 in. for the middle shelves and dividers). But in context of the price (something like $35 delivered) it's an outstanding value. The marks other than the chip in the shelf are not visible from the couch and it looks good otherwise. The color is a brown but a dark brown. Sits on my black shelving fine.



FYI: each of the eight shelf spaces are 10 3/4 inch wide by 8 1/4 inch tall.



Bottomline: If I had to redo my purchase I'd buy this product again.More detail ...
